COUACH SHIPYARD

The shipyard, based in Gujan-Mestras, on the Bassin d’Arcachon near Bordeaux, houses all the premises for the study and production of ships. This includes: the design and engineering office, the research and development department as well as all the production workshops. Luxury yachts and defence vessels are therefore entirely created, developed and built in house.

The Bassin d’Arcachon is an exceptional place, similar to a landlocked sea. It offers a unique test base for boats. No port within 160 km to the north or south: a changing narrow path to enter the bay, making entry and exit navigation very dangerous, ideal for developing and testing boats before confronting them with difficult sailing conditions.

    COUACH BIRTH

    Albert Couach creates the world’s first marine engines in Arcachon, France. This is how the first Couach entity was born.

  • 1902

    LIBELLULE

    Accompanied by Auguste Bert, Albert Couach developed the first motorized “pinasse” in the Arcachon bay called “Libellule”.

  • 1918

    ENGINE DEVELOPMENT

    The family business is taken over by Albert’s two sons, Robert and Louis, who develop the Couach engine business.

  • 1947

    FIRST SERIES PRODUCTION BOAT

    Guy Couach created Arcoa. Under Arcoa, Guy Couach launched the mass production of boats.

  • 1948

    ARCOA

    The yard launches a 10.50 meter Pinasse (Arcoa 48), and sells more than 400 units. The majority of which will be exported to Africa, Madagascar and Asia. All the models are designed by Guy Couach, “the Great French Shipbuilder”.

  • 1955

    BEST SELLER

    The shipyard signs one of the best-selling models at the time, the Arcoa 1060. 60 years later, the marine performances of the Couach boats are still recognized all around the world.

  • 1962

    REVIVAL

    Birth of the entity “Guy Couach”. Guy Couach builds his shipyard in Gujan Mestras next to Arcachon and thus equips himself with his own tools and installations for shipbuilding.

    THE FIRST YACHT

    The Guy Couach shipyard presents its first yacht model, the 1200.

  • 1968

    REVOLUTION

    Guy Couach goes on the offensive and revolutionizes the French market with his 920. 88 units are built.

  • 1970

    DIVERSIFICATION

    The company develops a range of surveillance launches for national and international maritime and government agencies. It then becomes a leading supplier to naval armies.

    PRECURSEUR

    Couach construit le premier yacht au monde en Aramat®.

    FORERUNNER

    Couach builds the world’s first yacht in Aramat®.

  • 1975

    LEADER IN FRANCE

    Guy Couach has become the undisputed leader in France for boats from 9 to 16 meters.

  • 1985

    MODERNITY

    Pierre Couach, son of Guy, joined the family yard. An admirer of his father’s work, this architect by training initiates the modernization of the range with a new approach to design. The yard is embarks into larger yachts reaching 28 meters.

  • 1996

    RENOWAL

    The shipyard is sold. Pierre Couach begins the redesign of the 12 to 20 metre range. Success lies with the new 185 Fly of which seven units are sold in the first year.

  • 1998

    NEW STRATEGY

    Strategic evolutions guide the company to manufacture larger yachts from 20 to 32 meters. Success comes again, this time with the 2200 FLY with a production of 5 units the first year (45 in total).

  • 2005

    THE YEAR OF CHANGE

    The Guy Couach shipyard is now called Couach Yachts. To perfect this strategy, Couach buys the International Marine Service refit shipyard “IMS Shipyard” in St Mandrier which will become its technical base in the Mediterranean. International sales are developing.

  • 2006

    COUACH SIGNATURE

    Following the “Open Yacht” trend, Couach presents a new design signature.

  • 2007

    37’S SUCCESS

    The 3700 Fly is the largest yacht ever built by the Couach shipyard at the time. It was a great success and even before the first launch of this new 37-metre model, 5 orders had already been received. The shipyard then began major works and built a 4400 m² hall which will accommodate the construction of a 50-metre yacht.

  • 2008

    NATURAL ELEGANCE

    Natural elegance and sporty refinement are the terms that best describe the design strategy of Couach yachts. The construction of the first two 5000 Fly units and the construction of a gigantic launching ramp is launched. Couach confirms its focus on the production of large units.

  • 2011

    NEPTEAM GROUP

    Nepteam Holding, owned by local investors, acquires the Couach firm. Thus contributing to the revitalization of industrial activity in the Arcachon bay and Mediterranean facilities.

  • 2012

    THE PELLEGRINA

    Couach presents its very first 50 meter : The Pellegrina. She is a reel concentrate of technology at the service of maritime performance and luxury.

  • 2014

    THE BIG SECRET

    Couach confirms its know-how by launching its second 50-meters yacht called “Belongers” with a level of quality never before achieved. Couach begins, in the greatest secrecy, to make halls in its premises for a new project … a few months later and give rise to the dissemination of information: the construction of a 44 m has already started .

  • 2016

    NOVELTY & OUTCOME

    New management team, new sales, marketing and design concepts; a new wind is blowing on the site. It is in this dynamic infatuation that Couach begins the complete overhaul of its in-house yacht range. Couach launches Tosca, its third 499 GT motor yacht in 6 years that surpasses all market standards. At the same time, a 23-metre Couach is signed at the same time.

    MAJOR SIZE DELIVERY

    The year began with the launch of one of the largest ships that Couach built : The 4700 Fly. A few months later, another unit from the brand’s know-how was launched : the fifth unit of Couach’s 2300 Fly series called “Armonee”.

  • 2017

    BUSINESS AWARD

    Couach is awarded a contract to build a 17-metre interceptor capable of speeds up to 60 knots. In 2017, Couach will deliver 54 units in twelve months for the famous Lürssen shipyard. The company took advantage of this exercise to develop a unique industrial tool enabling the construction of a 16.50 metre boat per week.

     

  • 2018

    4200 LOUNGE

    The success of the new Couach is also marked by the brand new innovative model designed in-house: the “Lounge” model, which is no less than 42 metres long. At the same time, the yard powers its production line and delivers the hull and deck of the first VanDutch 75′ and launches three Wally Power 52′ under construction.

  • 2019

    ALWAYS BIGGER

    Couach launches the production of the seventh 37-metre unit, the 3707 Fly, which is also its 33rd yacht over 28 metres in length. At the same time, the company prepares for the construction of the new “Couach Concept”, a 42-metre hybrid: The 4200 Lounge.

    SNSM fleet

    COUACH IN THE WORLD OF SEA RESCUE

    Couach wins another historic contract in France for the design and construction of more than 70 safety boats for the French sea rescue company. This contract includes vessels ranging from 8 to 17 meters long.

    NEWS MODELS

    Couach unveils its new yachts ranging from 23 to 52 metres. Defined in 2 distinct ranges:

    • DISCOVER : which presents 23 and 26 meters vessels (2300 FLY – 2600 FLY) for cruising
    • GREEN POWER : which presents hybrid concepts allowing transatlantic navigation (4200 LOUNGE – 5200 YACHT)
